Service with Character

During the Fall, Anchor Academy students have the the unique opportunity to work at the Vanduser Cotton Gin.  Through this experience the young men are able to learn work ethic, self-esteem, and teamwork.  In addition, they each get hourly wages that go into their personal account.  Below are some pictures of the cotton ginning process.

The above pictures are of cotton modules ready to be ginned. Justin removes the tarps to get the module ready to go through the gin.  Approximately 12.5 bales of cotton can be made from one module

These are pictures of cotton going through the stand where the seed is removed.  The stands at the Vanduser Gin can make approximately 23 bales an hour.

Once the cotton goes through the ginning process it goes to the press where it is tightly compacted into 500 pound bails and bagged.  It takes a team of five young men and one staff to man the press.  Once the bails are bagged, the forklift picks it up and places it on a semi-truck.
